 MidYouth Ministry Director

Conway First United Methodist Youth Ministry’s mission is to help students build faith for life by welcoming them to an inclusive and supportive environment, cultivating strong mentor relationships with adults who care, and engaging students in service, with attention to challenging and intentional conversations about discipleship, United Methodist theology, and justice.

Position Summary

Reports to:                                                      Director of Youth Ministries

Education Qualification:                              College Degree Preferred + Prefer two to three years of relevant experience

Work Schedule/Number of Hours:             Part-Time Position (30 hours a week)

  • Flexible schedule during the week
  • Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings required

Compensation:                                              $22,000 to $28,000 based upon experience.

Responsibilities

Communication:

  • Communicate directly with 5th-7th grade parents and students about upcoming events and ministry needs via email, text, and mailings.
  • Work with Director of Youth Ministries to curate calendars for school year and summer at least 6-10 months in advance of events.
  • Utilize staff meetings, church software, to communicate the needs of Midyouth programming.

Relationships with Students and Their Families:

  • Will abide strictly by the standards set by our church’s Safe Gatherings policy, and work with the Director of Youth Ministries to ensure that all volunteers working with the Midyouth abide by and are trained in the Safe Gatherings policy.
  • Will cultivate environments where young people feel welcome, loved, and
  • Builds relationships with parents and volunteers and acts as their minister and supporter as much as the young people we serve.
  • Find creative ways of allowing intergenerational relationships to take place in the ministry setting.

Discipleship Formation and Missions:

  • Strong commitment to discipleship as the “why” of your
  • Coordinate Sunday School teachers, students, and Wednesday night volunteers.
  • Plan and lead retreats for Midyouth on an annual
  • Provide curriculum and execute programming for Midyouth on Wednesday
  • Will attend and encourage students to make relationships beyond the church walls in the United Methodist Connection through participation in Arkansas Annual Conference Youth Events.
  • Help young people practice and understand the skills of discipleship: prayer, reading the Bible, worship, and participating in service to others.
  • Will coordinate and oversee “Wonderfully Made,” our comprehensive and fully affirming sexual education course for 5th-grade students.
  • Will design and facilitate service projects with United Methodist affiliated Non-profits and local non-profits for 5th-7th graders with development and learning styles in mind.

Leadership Cultivation:

  • Facilitate and empower Midyouth student leadership team to make decisions that directly impact their ministry experience: choosing topics, themes, games, and service projects for their ministry area.
  • Empower youth to participate in visible leadership within the congregation.
  • Will attend continuing education on an annual basis.
  • Will identify and empower students who have a distinct calling

Personal and Theological Attributes:

    • Must be strongly United Methodist in their faith and theological
    • Must believe in infant baptism and the important role of confirmation in the life of a young person.
    • Be flexible and have a good
    • Have a good sense of humor when things don’t go according to
    • Willingness to be a team player and a servant
    • Willing to help with other ministry-related tasks
